A photo of the moon taken by Bryce on April 10th, 2006. Moon Photograph The Lulu tunnel of the Lone Jack mine near Mount Baker. This mine is interesting in that it is the only operating gold mine in Washington State at this time. The tracks got bent because, during WWII, the tunnel was used for dynamite storage by the National Guard. Sometime in the 1950's, the Guard found the dynamite to be leaking and unstable, so they set it off! Amazingly, this didn't collapse the tunnel. Click to enlarge
This wrecked plant is along Interstate 84 in Eastern Oregon, at the townsite of Lime. It was a concrete factory until the late 50's, when the highway was put through. Later (long story), its owners were told they had to have it demolished. So they hired a contractor to wreck the structure. The company did some initial work, removed the recycleable materials, took the money and ran. Click to enlarge The Racetrack! It's a dry lakebed in Death Valley, California. The rocks spread across its surface have mysterious trails behind them, meaning that when the surface of the lakebed is moist they've been moving. But nobody actually knows how. Click to enlarge
